Dear Single Mom - what state are you in? What is your basic problem? If you're in NYS, you can respond to this msg and maybe I'll pick it up online. You can also go to Legal Aid in New York, or to one of the bar associations, who often have pro bono family law type programs. If not, they can probably refer you. Further, there are several law schools in NY, including City University of New York School of Law at Queens College, which has a 'battered women's rights' clinic. Good luck!

Single mom- I was married to a cop, and we have two daughters. He has throughout our marriage always been physically and emotionally abusive to me and my daughters. I called police several times and nothing was ever done("friends" in the department responded to the calls) He filed a suit for modification of conservatorship and won all because i asked for more child support. I am torn on what to do. My daughters are now living in a home of an abuser and he and his new wife are beginning to abuse them. I have filed an appeal and has denied me access to my children regardless of the orders of the court. This man has tormented my life and my childrens' lives all over again. He seems to have control of my life, once again. I need help, i do not have any documentation that any abuse has occured other than my children witnessing some of the abuse. He is a very well known & "upstanding" officer. please help. i need more information on appeal hearings...

My Dad left my mother a long time ago. He is still married to her and still pays most (I say most) of the bill's. My mom is unable to work because she has never had to work. My dad has always told her that he would take care of her. Now he will not give her money for food or her medications. They have been married for over 30 years. He now (or has been) living with another woman for a long time. I need some help on how to get my mom on food stamps and some kind of hospital insurance. He pays for nothing. What can I do to help with my mother. We live in the state of Georgia. He has money and he has food and his medication, why should my mother have to suffer because of him. He will not talk to me or my sister or even my mother for that matter. I need some help on how to take care of my mother with out breaking me. He should have never left her the way that he did. If we try any thing he just says that he will leave the country and we wont be able to find him. He has changed all his belongings to the other womans name. So you cant take any thing from him. And if something were to happen to him its all in her name. Please help me with my mother and tell me how to get her some medical help and food. thank you so much

I'm a mother being acused of child abuse by my child's school. I have 4 children ages 3 years to 13 years. My 8 year old is autistic and goes to special classes. He is also very active and falls and gets scrapes and cuts on his knees. He accidently hit his arm against a patio heater that was turned off but still hot and got burnt. His teacher asked how it happened and his father told her. She must not have believed this as within 2 hours the Child services sent a person to my home to investigate. He spoke to me and each of my childen. Asked them if they were spanked and other discipline questions. Now I'm afraid they are going to take my childen away. What can I do to protect my family. I've never harmed my children and love them so much I'd die if they were taken from me. Please help me.

I am an adult and "only child" whose father remarried 6 months after my mother died. That was three years ago. Although we live within ten miles of one another, I have not seen or heard from him. He was annoyed that I was not ready to meet his girlfriend 2 mos. after my mom's death, so he has pretty much turned his back on me (and his adult grandaughter). I know he has rented out his house and that he lives in the house my stepmother (who is, according to him, VERY wealthy) has. Six years ago I recieved a copy of a Will that left everything to me (house, etc) in the event my dad died after my mom. What, if any rights do I have in inheritance? Does another Will, leaving everything to his new wife automatically shut me out? I am not sure our relationship will ever be better, it was not very good all my life and was strained even further by my mom's long illness. At the time of my mom's death I was in the first few months of trying to get a just diagnosed medical condition (Rhumatoid Arthritis) under control. In other words, I was ill, unable to walk. I think my dad wants nothing to do ANOTHER sick person as I am now better, but on disability. Thank you for any advice. I live in California.

I am a 21 yr old female conservatee who is trying to end a conservatorship in the state of NY. It was instituted when I was a minor. It came about as the result of a successful lawsuit. I'm completely capable of handling my affairs and would like to know how to end it. It was handled in the Brooklyn Supreme Court. Any help that could be given is greatly appreciated.
